Kannathaal, a widow for the past 40 years, has one son. Her life is full of ill-luck. Anyone who meets her feels sorry for her. Her life has become even more pitiful after her husband’s death, because her only son abandoned her.

Kannathaal, 73, has been affected by Leprosy for the past 40 years. After she was diagnosed with Leprosy, her only son, knowing her medical condition, abandoned her fearing that he might contract it. She lives very meagerly on a pension provided by the government, which is minimal.

Her hands were most affected by Leprosy and she was not able to use them. With no one to take care of her, she visits the Primary Health Center to get medicine. She is now again partially able to use her hands. Sadly, she cannot walk properly and has difficulty in moving around.

Kannathaal lives in a small hut built by people in her village. She used to survive by begging for food from her neighbors. Those who felt pity for her used to give her the leftovers from their houses. When she began to lose all hope for survival, her sufferings were put to end. Tripura Foundation found her and helped her. She is now being provided monthly rationing by our HoPE for the Elderly program.

She thanks our sponsors and is grateful for our help when others abandoned her and she thought all hope was lost.
